The New York Times reported, citing an American official, that Donald Trump is considering military options to counter the crackdown on protesters in Iran, while also keeping diplomatic avenues in mind.

According to this official, the Pentagon has proposed a wide range of targets to Trump, including nuclear programs and ballistic missile sites. However, informed officials believe that more limited options such as cyberattacks or targeting security entities responsible for the crackdowns are more likely. Trump had previously stated that the use of deadly force against protesters is his 'red line.'

Caroline Levitt, a White House spokesperson, emphasized on Monday that airstrikes are only one of the options on the table, adding, 'Diplomacy is always the President's top priority.' She also noted that the confidential messages received from Tehran have a different tone than their public harsh rhetoric, which Trump is willing to consider.
