In the latest move as part of the United States' pressure against the Iranian government, the US Department of the Treasury has placed 12 officials and entities of the Islamic Republic on a new sanctions list. Among the added names is Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran. These sanctions target individuals and entities that, according to the US government, have played a role in suppressing protests and committing widespread human rights violations or are connected to the security and military networks of the Islamic Republic. The sanctions list also includes several senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, including Ne'matollah Bagheri, Commander of the IRGC in Lorestan, Mohammad Reza Hashemi Far, Police Commander of Lorestan, Yadollah Bouali, Commander of the Fajr IRGC in Fars, and Azizollah Maleki, Police Commander of Fars Province. Being placed on this list, which is overseen by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), means that assets are blocked and financial interactions with US citizens and companies are prohibited, and it is part of Washington's efforts to increase pressure on Iran's security institutions and officials due to human rights violations and the suppression of protests.
