With the change in the positions of France and Spain regarding the designation of the Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization, the European Union may soon recognize this military entity of the Islamic Republic as a terrorist organization. Sources in the Spanish Foreign Ministry also confirmed that Spain would vote in favor of this decision in the European Union. Italy, which initially showed reluctance towards this action, changed its position to support the designation of the Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization following the release of new data on the horrific dimensions of the violent repression of street protests in Iran. On Tuesday, January 27, Antonio Tajani, the Italian Foreign Minister, announced that Italy would propose the inclusion of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the list of terrorist organizations at the meeting of the EU Foreign Ministers' Council in Brussels on Thursday. The Israeli Foreign Minister also expressed gratitude for France's support for the inclusion of the Revolutionary Guard in the list of terrorist organizations, stating that the Guard is violently killing the people of Iran and urged other EU members to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization.
